The Story
of Funky Robot

Fresno, California. 1996. Three Hip-Hop producers and DJs — DJ Marcutz, DJ Don, and DJ Chach — decided the underground didn't need permission from major labels to exist. Funky Robot Records was born.

Rooted in Electro, Acid, Breakbeat and Techno, the label drew from a lifetime of influences: Kraftwerk, Cybotron, the Detroit and New York Electro scenes, and the urban Hip-Hop foundations that shaped all three founders since the early 80s.

The name came from a Rufus Thomas track that had stayed with DJ Chach since childhood — funky, mechanical, futuristic. It fit perfectly. Science fiction, robotics, and the idea of technology as an extension of human creativity were always part of the DNA.

Distributed worldwide. Inclusions on compilations and mixtapes across the globe. All underground. All independent. All real.
